About

In June 2014, Opera Cabal presented the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), in the world stage premiere of ATTHIS, a haunting monodrama by Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas with lyrics by the ancient Greek poet Sappho. Directed by Emmy Award-winning stage director Habib Azar, soprano Ariadne Grief took the stage as Sappho with Opera Cabal’s Majel Connery embodying her elusive lover. The evening also featured never-before-staged works by Brazilian composer Marcos Balter featuring Nadia Sirota (viola),  Clarice Jensen (cello) and Andrew Rehrig (alto flute).

“...one of the most searingly painful and revealing operatic performances in recent times.” -New York Times
